Going the Distance: Supporting & Retaining Mentors - Closed Due to Capacity

Mentor retention is always important, but especially crucial when mentoring hard-to-reach youth. Retention strategies begin before the match is made, require continuous effort, and are embedded in all aspects of programming. This session will explore key program practices that influence match retention and success.

Presented by Nicky Martin, Director, National Mentoring Center at Education Northwest
Nicky Martin is the director of the National Mentoring Center and coordinates Education Northwest's youth-focused national service initiatives. She came to Education Northwest in 2000 to work on youth development and service-learning projects and curricula. Since then she has led national training and technical assistance projects funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Nicky also contributed to the National Partnership for Quality Afterschool Learning, leading the development of the Partnership’s Online Literacy Toolkit, and is a certified volunteer management trainer. Before joining Education Northwest, she worked with immigrant and refugee youth and adults, in both community-based and higher education settings. She holds a B.A. in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an M.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Washington.
