The President and First Lady Michelle Obama will give a tremendous boost today to the national movement to recruit volunteer mentors to help transform the lives of America’s youth. Mentors and their mentees from across the country will join the President and Mrs. Obama at a White House event to highlight the value of mentoring and mark the 9th Annual National Mentoring Month.

On Jan. 4, President Barack Obama signed a Presidential Proclamation declaring January as National Mentoring Month (NMM). “I call upon public officials, business and community leaders, educators, and Americans across the country to observe this month with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs,” the proclamation stated.

Kids and adults, side by side, singing from the heart—that’s the core of the Minnesota Chorale’s 2009 Bridges concert, “Sing with Me,” which celebrates the mentoring relationships that have blossomed between the Minneapolis Youth Chorus (MYC) and adult singers in the Chorale. This upbeat, family-friendly event will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 215 South 8th Street, in downtown Minneapolis.
