Steps of the QMAP Process
The Quality Mentoring Assessment Path (QMAP) is a multi-step process that revolves around the interactive QMAP tool, and it is available to all Minnesota youth mentoring programs. Read on to learn what to expect from the process.
- Register Your Program - Check the Find a Program page. If your mentoring program is not listed, you will need to register your organization to have login access to the Mentoring Partnership of Minnesota (MPM) website by filling out a registration form. After submitting the form, MPM will add your program to the website and send you an assigned registration ID and password. This login information will also get you access to exclusive news and funding announcements.
- Request QMAP Access - Once you have login access, contact MPM's Training Institute to let them know you would like to participate in the QMAP. MPM will then add the QMAP feature to your login access.
- Log In - Go to the Program Login page and enter your assigned login information. Once logged in, click on Quality Mentoring Assessment Path on the left.
Gather anyone who will be involved in QMAP (many programs have found that working on it with multiple staff is helpful) and begin filling it out. There are 99 standards to rate your program on, but each item uses the same rating scale, so it will go more quickly as you progress. Occasionally you will be asked to provide additional information or upload a supporting document that corresponds to a specific standard. If you decide to take a break from the QMAP, make sure to save your work. When you return to the assessment, use the menu on the left to go directly to the section you want to work on. Generally, the QMAP tool takes programs a total of 4-8 hours to complete.
- Ask Questions, Get Support - When you have a question, use the QMAP tool's menu to access FAQ, contact information to request technical assistance from MPM staff, and extensive resources. These resources are indexed by QMAP section and include general information, guidelines, examples and templates to help programs understand and meet each quality standard.
- Submit - When your progress bar indicates 100% completion, hit submit! If the progress bar indicates less than 100% completion, click “Show Me Unanswered Questions.”
Within three months of submitting your QMAP assessment, MPM will call you to schedule a meeting to review your responses. During the meeting, MPM staff will go over your QMAP results with you and help you develop a 12-month Improvement & Innovation Plan. At this point, program leadership will be asked to sign a Statement of Accuracy, and your program will become one of MPM's
Dedicated or Expert Partners, granting your program access to exclusive benefits.
After your review meeting, MPM will continue to stay in touch throughout the year to support your program as it moves forward and continues efforts to improve program quality.
- Receive Personalized Support - MPM staff will check in to see how your Improvement & Innovation Plan is coming along after six months and again after 12 months.
- Use Resources - MPM's Training Institute offers many workshops, customizable trainings, and free webinars that may help you as you implement your Improvement & Innovation Plan. Also make sure to subscribe to MPM's monthly e-newsletters and check out the Resources section of the website, both of which are free.
